Expectations on a level of:

Summary

“Nix’s life began in Honolulu in 1868. Since then she has traveled to mythic Scandinavia, a land from the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, modern-day New York City, and many more places both real and imagined. As long as he has a map, Nix’s father can sail his ship, The Temptation, to any place, any time. But now he’s uncovered the one map he’s always sought—1868 Honolulu, before Nix’s mother died in childbirth. Nix’s life—her entire existence—is at stake. No one knows what will happen if her father changes the past. It could erase Nix’s future, her dreams, her adventures . . . her connection with the charming Persian thief, Kash, who’s been part of their crew for two years. If Nix helps her father reunite with the love of his life, it will cost her her own.” by Goodreads.

Why?

… a freaking time-travel-ship? Come on, who can say no to that?

But I won’t get too excited, because I remember how disappointed I was after reading Magonia. The story sounded amazing but was rather … unmagical.
Well, I really hope this will turn out great, because timetravel never get’s old.
What is your WOW this week?

Waiting on Wednesday #20 – “After You”

I haven’t read a book written by this author until “Me Before You” and it made me cry. Not in sobs, but more of a “silent crying”.
My best friend put this book into my hands while I was struggling with what to read next. Well, here I am, waiting for the sequel.

Title: After You
Author: Jojo Moyes
Pages: 368
will be released on September 29th 2015! (6 MORE DAYS!)

Summary

IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FIRST ONE AND WANT TO AVOID SPOILERS, DON’T READ THE SUMMARY!

“How do you move on after losing the person you loved? How do you build a life worth living?

Louisa Clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. After the transformative six months spent with Will Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an extraordinary accident forces Lou to return home to her family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she started.

Her body heals, but Lou herself knows that she needs to be kick-started back to life. Which is how she ends up in a church basement with the members of the Moving On support group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. They will also lead her to the strong, capable Sam Fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life and death, and the one man who might be able to understand her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks all her plans, propelling her into a very different future. . . .

For Lou Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. But here Jojo Moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both changes and surprises await.

After You is quintessential Jojo Moyes—a novel that will make you laugh, cry, and rejoice at being back in the world she creates. Here she does what few novelists can do—revisits beloved characters and takes them to places neither they nor we ever expected.”

Why? or Why did Jojo Moyes write a sequel?

Dear Reader,

I wasn’t going to write a sequel to Me Before You. But for years, readers kept asking and I kept wondering what Lou did with her life.  In the end the idea came, as they sometimes do, at 5:30 in the morning, leaving me sitting bolt upright in my bed and scrambling for my pen.

It has been such a pleasure revisiting Lou and her family, and the Traynors, and confronting them with a whole new set of issues. As ever, they have made me laugh, and cry. I hope readers feel the same way at meeting them—especially Lou—again.  And I’m hoping that those who love Will will find plenty to enjoy.

—Jojo Moyes

As I said before: I loved the first book. While the story is really exceptional, the Cover isn’t. It’s way to girly and I really hope they change it last-minute. But that’s just me and I can live with a girly Cover if the story is great – so don’t disappoint me, Jojo Moyes!
What are you waiting for this Wednesday? Let me know! 🙂

Waiting on Wednesday #18 – “Revenge and the Wild”

I have really no idea how I manage to find these books, everytime I’m on Goodreads (which is not as often as I want to be. You know … unfortunately, there is a tiny piece of life outside of the World of Books and Bloggers.)

Title: Revenge and the Wild
Author: Michelle Modesto
Pages: 384
will be released on February 2nd 2016

Dark Magic, Monsters, Cannibals (?!) and seeking Revenge. Sounds good?

“The two-bit town of Rogue City is a lawless place, full of dark magic and saloon brawls, monsters and six-shooters. But it’s perfect for seventeen-year-old Westie, the notorious adopted daughter of local inventor Nigel Butler.

Westie was only a child when she lost her arm and her family to cannibals on the wagon trail. Nine years later, Westie may seem fearsome with her foul-mouthed tough exterior and the powerful mechanical arm built for her by Nigel, but the memory of her past still haunts her. She’s determined to make the killers pay for their crimes—and there’s nothing to stop her except her own reckless ways.
But Westie’s search ceases when a wealthy family comes to town looking to invest in Nigel’s latest invention, a machine that can harvest magic from gold—which Rogue City desperately needs as the magic wards that surround the city start to fail. There’s only one problem: the investors look exactly like the family who murdered Westie’s kin. With the help of Nigel’s handsome but scarred young assistant, Alistair, Westie sets out to prove their guilt. But if she’s not careful, her desire for revenge could cost her the family she has now.”

from here.

WHY?

The better question: Why not? Yes, sure, the cannibals were something I didn’t really expect (and I’m not into cannibal-stories, really. Maybe Hannibal, but that’s a completely different type of story, isn’t it?)
Okay, the plot isn’t something totally new and mind-blowing, but I like books which deal with revenge and magic (or both).
I think it has potential to be great, but we all know how easily anticipated books can disappoint us, right?
Well, we’ll see.

Waiting on Wednesday #16 – “The Shadow Queen”

I know, I know. Really? Another one? That’s what you’re thinking. I’m really not that excited about this book – I’m simply curious how it’ll turn out.

Title: The Shadow Queen
Author: C.J. Redwine
Pages: 400
Expected Publication:  February 23rd 2016

THE STORY

“Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She’ll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman…and bring her Lorelai’s heart.

But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn’t going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.”

by Goodreads

WHY?
Just because!

Natalie (Never trust a duck) said: “I feel like the motto “I’d retell that” should be used by authors these days because literally, the amount of retellings? Not that I’m complaining, they’re quite good. But seriously, I’d retell that.” (see for yourself) – Good one.

True. But I’m still curious.

Waiting on Wednesday #15 – “Kingdom of Ashes” (A Wicked Thing SEQUEL)

I know, what you’re thinking. It’s the Cover. You can’t decide if it’s good or not. Nevermind, let’s keep this thing going!

Title: Kingdom of Ashes (Wicked #2)
Author: Rhiannon Thomas
Pages: 368
Expected Publication:  February 23rd 2016

Why?

Again, this book is the sequel to “A Wicked Thing” which wasn’t really as “wicked” as expected, but okay. Still hoping the best, everyone deserves a second chance. Maybe this time she won’t be all “What am I doing?” and “What should I do” and “Oh, everyone seems nice but no one really is”. Hopefully.

Summary

Waiting on Wednesday #12 – “Dreamstrider”

IMG_20150204_1249541[1]

“Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill (breakingthespine) that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.”

Title: “Dreamstrider
Author: Lindsay Smith
Pages: 320
Release date: October 6th 2015

What’s the story?

“A high-concept, fantastical espionage novel set in a world where dreams are the ultimate form of political intelligence.

Livia is a dreamstrider. She can inhabit a subject’s body while they are sleeping and, for a short time, move around in their skin. She uses her talent to work as a spy for the Barstadt Empire. But her partner, Brandt, has lately become distant, and when Marez comes to join their team from a neighborhing kingdom, he offers Livia the option of a life she had never dared to imagine. Livia knows of no other dreamstriders who have survived the pull of Nightmare. So only she understands the stakes when a plot against the Empire emerges that threatens to consume both the dreaming world and the waking one with misery and rage.

A richly conceived world full of political intrigue and fantastical dream sequences, at its heart Dreamstrider is about a girl who is struggling to live up to the potential before her.”

Why did I choose this one?

It is difficult for me to take a book home  if there is an explicit mention of “politics” in it. I’m not a “political type”, I don’t like the way the world works and I think there are so many improvements to be made – but this is another story.
While this synopsis mentions Politics in a way I’ve not heard before, I’m intimidated if my language skills are enough to understand such a “richly conceived world full of political intrigue”.

Every time I watch the news I’m all like

and remember what everyone is saying.

Nevermind, I’ll definitely look into this book and I mean – DREAMS? They got me with this!

Waiting on Wednesday #11- “A Madness So Descreet”

Title: “A Madness So Discreet
Author: Mindy McGinnis

Release date: October 6th 2015

“Grace Mae knows madness.

She keeps it locked away, along with her voice, trapped deep inside a brilliant mind that cannot forget horrific family secrets. Those secrets, along with the bulge in her belly, land her in a Boston insane asylum.

When her voice returns in a burst of violence, Grace is banished to the dark cellars, where her mind is discovered by a visiting doctor who dabbles in the new study of criminal psychology. With her keen eyes and sharp memory, Grace will make the perfect assistant at crime scenes. Do I need to say more? I’ll definitely read this precious Cover-beauty, because Sanity and Insanity is always a good topic to start your day with, isnt’it?
